Textile is a very important element of tribal culture. We at Unique Aspirations have a host of shawl varieties from the tribes of Himachal Pradesh, Orissa, Tamil Nadu & the North-East.

Name of the tribal communities & their specifications:

• The Bodh and Kinnauri tribes of the Lahaul-Spiti area in the hills of HIMACHAL PRADESH.
  
  They make use of pure pashmina wool and/or yak wool for their hand woven shawls. The shawls carry a characteristic traditional pattern on the border named ‘chesan’ (geometrical design), ‘dharipala’ (joint pattern) which is also called ‘kingri’, etc. One shawl may also come with all the patterns engraved in sync.



• The Todas living in the Nilgiris, TAMIL NADU.
  
  The beautifully embroidered ‘puthkulli’ shawls are a signature of this tribe. The designs are mainly done with red & black colours on a white background.



• Dongria Kond tribes from ORISSA
  
  The unmarried girls of this community are the main crafters of the beautiful and vibrant shawls named Dongria shawls. The use of red, green, yellow, etc on these shawls stands for love, fertility and togetherness.



• Chote and Kuki tribes from MANIPUR
  
  Saipikhup, is the name for the shawls made by this community. Adorned with different designs and motifs, they are meant for all age groups, men & women.



• Mizo tribe from MANIPUR
  
  This community uses the fly shuttle loom to produce traditional patterns for ladies stoles, called ‘pounpar’.



• Ao Naga, Chang Naga And Naga Lotha from NAGALAND

This community too uses flying shuttle looms to weave shawls, wraps and waistcoats too.
